Google data & permissions

What Abby does, and how it uses your Google account

Abby is an AI-powered bookkeeping assistant for small business owners and freelancers. You send receipts on Telegram; Abby reads them, categorises them, flags what's claimable, and logs each one to a Google Sheet you own. This page explains exactly which Google data Abby requests and why.

What Abby does

An AI bookkeeper that lives in Telegram

Abby removes the manual data entry from day-to-day bookkeeping. There is no dashboard to learn and no accounting knowledge required — if you can send a photo, you can keep clean books.

1

Connect your Google Sheet

Sign in with Google. Abby creates a clean spreadsheet for you, or connects one you already have. The sheet stays in your Drive and remains fully yours.

2

Send receipts on Telegram

Snap a photo, forward a PDF, or type a note. Abby reads the receipt, categorises it, and flags what is tax-relevant — usually in under 30 seconds.

3

Your books stay current

Every receipt is appended as a row in your Google Sheet automatically. Ask Abby what you spent and get a plain-English answer, any time.

Google data we request

The Google permissions Abby asks for

When you connect your Google account, Abby requests the minimum permissions needed to do its job. Each one, and the reason for it:

Google Sheets (spreadsheets)

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/spreadsheets

Why: To write each receipt as a new row in the spreadsheet you designate, create a starter sheet if you ask for one, and read back totals when you ask Abby a spending question (e.g. "how much did I spend on supplies this quarter?").

Google Drive — files Abby creates (drive.file)

https://www.googleapis.com/auth/drive.file

Why: To create the bookkeeping spreadsheet in your Drive and open the specific sheet you connect. This scope only grants access to files Abby creates or that you explicitly open with Abby — never the rest of your Drive.

Basic profile & email (userinfo.email, userinfo.profile, openid)

openid · userinfo.email · userinfo.profile

Why: To identify your account, sign you in, and link your Abby workspace to the correct Google user.

Limited Use

How we protect your Google data

Abby's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Specifically:

  • We only use your Google data to provide and improve the bookkeeping features described above.
  • We do not transfer or sell your Google data to third parties for advertising, market research, or any unrelated purpose.
  • We do not use your Google data, including your spreadsheet contents, to train generalized AI or machine-learning models.
  • Humans do not read your Google data except where you give explicit consent (e.g. to debug a support issue you report), where required for security, or to comply with applicable law.
  • Abby only reads and writes the specific spreadsheet you connect — it cannot access the rest of your Google Drive.

Access & deletion

Your control

You can disconnect Abby from your Google account at any time from your Google Account permissions page. Revoking access immediately stops Abby from reading or writing your sheet. Your spreadsheet remains in your Drive and stays yours.

For full detail on what we collect, how long we keep it, and how to request deletion, see our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
